TGG PARTNERS Q&A – 2022 OREGON BUSINESS AWARD

Last week, The Gunter Group was recognized as the #3 Best Company to Work For in Oregon in the medium-sized business category, according to Oregon Business. This marks the second year in a row that TGG has ranked in the top three and the eighth consecutive year that TGG has been honored by Oregon Business as a Best Company to Work For in Oregon.

We visited with partners, Mike and Ashleigh Gunter, Matt Bader, and Tony Schweiss to hear more about what makes the 2022 Oregon Business honor special.

This is the second year in a row TGG has finished in the top three, what were your reactions when you read the rankings? 

Ashleigh: For me, I was incredibly excited and incredibly grateful. Excited because it validates the work we do daily to build and maintain our culture  and grateful because our amazing team members are the ones who live out our culture and our Non-Negotiables every day with each other and with clients.  

Tony: I agree with everything Ashleigh said and would add that the recognition was also validating because our company continues to add new team members every year and we recognize that just because you have a strong workplace environment doesn’t automatically guarantee it will stay that way over time. For us, growing year-over-year while not only maintaining, but furthering our culture in the midst of a pandemic stricken society… it confirms that we have been investing time and resources in the right places as an organization. 

On that note, how has TGG been able to maintain its workplace culture while steadily growing and expanding into new markets?

Matt: As leaders we really focus on listening to our team. Our mission has been, and will continue to be, to maximize potential for our consultants, our clients, and our communities. We genuinely engage our team in conversations about how to make our organization better and stronger, and a company that they are proud to be a part of. The strength and character of our team is our highest priority and it fuels the strength and character of our culture. 

Mike: Absolutely. Building off of that further, we continue to look at every business decision, large or small, through the lens of our Non-Negotiables. Does what we want to do or what we think we should do align with all of our Non-Negotiables? Not just one or two of them, but all of them. As we look at continuing to build our company and grow into new markets over the next few years, our Non-Negotiables have never been more important as the basis for framing our decisions..  

The Gunter Group has made the Best Companies to Work For in Oregon list for eight consecutive years. What’s the first thing that comes to your mind when you hear that statement?  Ready, go!

Mike: To our team, thank you, thank you, thank you!

Ashleigh: Wow! Let’s keep it going!

TGG Q&A: MIKE & ASHLEIGH GUNTER ON RECENT OREGON BUSINESS AWARD

The Gunter Group was recently recognized as the #3 Best Company to Work For in Oregon in the medium-sized category. We visited with founders, Michael Gunter and Ashleigh Gunter to hear what makes this award special.

Why is the Oregon Business award so meaningful?

Mike: The Oregon Business award is especially meaningful because it’s a direct reflection on how our team feels about working together. It captures how the team thinks and ultimately this kind of award is the best news we can get as leaders.

TGG has been recognized on this list for seven consecutive years. How does that impact the everyday work of the team?

Ashleigh: I think it has a very strong impact on our work both in the short term and the long term. When we’re aligned culturally we provide exponentially better service to our clients and an exponentially better experience for our consultants.

Mike: Our intention has always been to take care of our team so that as individuals, people can thrive. Making the list multiple years helps confirm our efforts.

What went through your mind when you received news of the rankings?

Ashleigh: My very first thought was WOW this is fantastic! What makes this year particularly special is that in light of all the challenges, we’re continuing to support and value one another.

THE GUNTER GROUP RANKS #3 IN THE SMALL COMPANY CATEGORY ON THE OREGON BUSINESS 100 BEST COMPANIES TO WORK FOR IN OREGON

The Gunter Group is excited to be recognized as #3 in the small company category on the Oregon Business ‘100 Best Companies to work For’  in Oregon. The company received the honor at the 23rd Annual 100 Best Companies celebration dinner on March 3 at the Oregon Convention Center. Upon receiving the award, Ashleigh Gunter, Partner, said, “It really is an honor and I am humbled, but the credit really goes to our entire team; they earned this.”  

The event honors the top 100 companies to work for in Oregon, divided into three categories based on company size. The evening focused on recognizing the people that are essential for businesses to succeed – employees. The Top 100 ranking is based on confidential employee surveys with questions related to workplace satisfaction including benefits, management, trust, work environment, and career development. This year, over 235 companies and 10,730 employees participated in the survey.

As part of the survey, one of the  consultants in The Gunter Group wrote the firm has “a high caliber of professionals who want nothing more than for all the team members to succeed and do what’s best for our clients.” Ralph Pero, a consultant with the firm, said “Mike and Ashleigh [Gunter] recognize and embrace the power of great people and empower the company to pursue a common culture driving collaboration and success.”

Over the past two years, The Gunter Group has not only been recognized as one of Oregon’s best employers, but has also earned high marks in employee engagement, ranking in the 92nd percentile of small businesses. THE GUNTER GROUP RECEIVES GREAT RESULTS 2ND YEAR IN A ROW ON THE GALLUP EMPLOYEE ENGAGEMENT SURVEY

The Gunter Group recently participated in the second annual Gallup Employee Engagement Survey. The results were very positive, which puts TGG in the 92nd percentile among small organizations that completed the survey.  TGG ranked in the 99th percentile for overall satisfaction, reflecting the fact that our employees feel their input is valued and that we are committed to building a great team.  After reviewing the summary results, Founding Partner, Mike Gunter said, “Our philosophy is that our team members come first.  We could not be more proud of or happier about these results.”

In the 1990s Gallup did extensive research to identify obstacles that affect company growth and success. This led to their groundbreaking Employee Engagement Survey,which includes twelve workplace elements that impact organizational development.  Gallup characterizes engaged employees as those that are “involved in, enthusiastic about and committed to their work.”  Survey results consistently show that that a highly engaged workforce leads to improved employee retention, productivity and revenue.

According to Gallup’s June Monthly Report, only 31% of U.S. employees are truly engaged at work. These low numbers mean that employees are failing to develop and fully contribute at work. Maintaining an environment where employees feel engaged, rewarded and empowered is a priority for The Gunter Group. As The Gunter Group matures, we’re focused on maintaining a collaborative and rewarding environment where employees have a sense of autonomy and confidence in their work while feeling connected and supported within our team.  This results in greater customer satisfaction and reinforces our commitment to building strong client relationships.

THE GUNTER GROUP RECOGNIZED AT 100 BEST COMPANIES DINNER

The Gunter Group is pleased to be selected as one of the 2015 ‘100 Best Companies’ to work for in Oregon by Oregon Business.  The 2015 list and rankings were unveiled at the 22nd Annual 100 Best Companiescelebration dinner on February 26th at the Oregon Convention Center.  Matt Bader, a consultant at The Gunter Group who attended the event, expressed his gratitude. “It is such an honor to be on the list in our first year of participation. That said, I am not totally surprised. Being a part of this organization over the last three and a half years, I have always known that we were building something special. This award is external validation of what I have known for years.” Ashleigh Gunter, Partner, said “It was really exciting to spend the evening with Oregon’s best companies.  It makes me so proud that our team believes we should be at the table with these amazing organizations!”
